This Jefferson Memorial engagement photo session with Jess and Liam was such a joy to capture. As a Maryland and Washington DC engagement photographer, the memorials and Tidal Basin remain some of my favorite locations for timeless, romantic portraits. We began the session at the Jefferson Memorial, taking photos amongst the iconic columns and along the marble steps, where the soft late afternoon light reflected beautifully off the stone. The architecture here always feels classic and elegant, and it creates the perfect backdrop for both candid moments and more editorial portraits. We were also able to capture stunning views overlooking the Washington Monument, which added such a quintessential DC feel to the gallery.
After exploring the Jefferson Memorial, we walked along the Tidal Basin toward the FDR Memorial. The path along the water gave us space to slow down, chat, and capture those in-between moments that make engagement sessions feel genuine and relaxed. At the FDR Memorial, we found quiet pockets amongst the trees and along the water’s edge, to capture some additional moments. The mix of natural greenery and waterfront views gave the second half of their session a softer, more intimate feel that balanced beautifully with the grand architecture where we started. Sessions like this perfectly capture why I love photographing engagement photos in Washington DC. The variety of scenery, timeless backdrops, and peaceful pathways allow couples to move, connect, and create images that feel both elevated and effortless.
