I am pleased to announce that two of my photos have received masterpiece awards from WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) in their 2018 v16 competition as recognition for exceptional wedding photojournalism. This is a huge honor and something I have been working towards!
WPJA is an international, membership-based organization representing professional photographers skilled in the documentation of weddings in a candid, unobtrusive style. Membership is only granted to select photographers around the world who are held to a strict standard of expertise in wedding photojournalism.
Both of these Boston award winning wedding photos are from Harry and Chantal’s Westin Copley Place wedding last summer.
The above photo was taken during the garter toss at the Westin. It makes me laugh because at most garter tosses I’ve seen at receptions, the men usually try to avoid the garter at all costs, but at this wedding, a few enthusiastic guests really fought for it! Bonus wedding guest points to the guy who fell on the ground and lost the garter but saved his drink. This photo received a blue medallion from WPJA, which means it was selected by 3 out of 4 judges.
The above photo is from the same wedding at the Westin. To understand why I love this image I have to provide the backstory- Harry and Chantal’s wedding date was 8/18/18, otherwise known as the biggest wedding date of the year. The knot even published an article about how popular of a wedding date this was. We had just finished taking bride and groom portraits in Copley Square and in front of the Boston Public Library, and while heading back to the Westin we bumped into another bridal party crossing St. James ave. Everyone was just in great spirits, and the groom from my wedding and the bride from the other wedding high fived. I noticed the photographer from the other wedding photographing this moment from his viewpoint as well, and I wonder what his image looks like! This photo received a purple medallion from WPJA, which means it was selected by 2 out of 4 judges.
